For the month of June, the state of Nevada was able to earn over $1 million in online poker, which was a record setting month. The figures for July have now been released and the state saw a small decline but still was able to earn almost $1 million for the month. According to the numbers at the Las Vegas Review Journal, the state earned $985,000 for the month of July which was just under the $1,037,000 made in June.
The big numbers in June can be attributed to the World Series of Poker; as players arrived in the state and took part in online gaming as they competed in various WSOP events. As the World Series Of Poker took place for six weeks, the larger online poker revenues were expected, as those who normally could not compete online would be doing so.
The WSOP online poker site also made it easy for visitors to take part in online gaming. Offering satellites to events as well as players having the option of playing from laptops at the casino definitely bumped up revenues. Players could basically log on from anywhere, during breaks, at the hotel, etc. After the WSOP concluded, the state still had players logging on and competing which allowed the state to see the second largest month of revenues since launching.
When comparing the figures of July 2014 to July 2013, the state was able to increase online poker revenues only slightly. In 2013, the state earned $925.8 million while this year, for the same month of July, the state earned $932 million. This is not even a 1% increase but is an increase none the less. The WSOP did continue through mid-July so it will be interesting to see if the state is able to continue to see large revenue numbers this month and the months moving forward or if the numbers can only be attributed to WSOP game play.
