Two top gambling companies are now one step closer to offering online betting options in the state of Nevada. The Nevada Gaming Commission has announced that both Bally Technologies and International Game Technology received approval for an online betting license in the state.
Nevada has steadily been moving forward in the gambling industry. Just last year the state passed a statute which authorized internet gambling in the state. Several top companies have been vying for licenses and now the Gaming Commission has now approved two of the companies for licenses.
Mark Lipparrelli of the Gaming Control Board has been quoted as saying that online poker options could be available in the state of Nevada as soon as later this year or early next year. Lipparelli went on to state in an interview that both Bally and IGT must produce their technology to a testing lab in the state and their technology must be approved before it can go live online.
With the approvals, the state will now be one step closer to offering online gambling options. The addition of online gambling in the state could see billions of dollars earned over the next few years. The revenues will greatly help the state and will hopefully show other states in the US the benefits of online gambling options.
Other companies are hoping to get in on the online action as well. Caesars Entertainment Corp. as well as MGM Resorts International has all requested to be approved for an online gambling license and it will be interesting to see who many more licenses will be approved in the coming weeks and months.
IGT and Bally plan on using their licenses to provide technology to online operators so they will not be directly competing with the local casinos. Richard Haddrill the Chief Executive Officer at Bally commented on earning the license by stating:
“We look forward to Bally expanding its leadership role in this exciting new arena of online gaming. This license, backed by our decade of interactive experience, will allow us to enable our casino partners with a way to provide wager-based online poker to their players.”
