As Nevada and Delaware became the first states to sign an interstate agreement for iGaming, many wondered, ‘What about New Jersey?’ The state had reportedly been in talks with Delaware and Nevada on the subject but never made a move to expand in this manner. However, that will change at some point this year as New Jersey is expected to enter into an interstate agreement before 2014 is finished.
According to a report by Pokerfuse, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement Online Gaming Consultant, Mario Galea, is expecting the state to enter such agreements before the year comes to a close. Galea was hired by the Division almost one year ago to take charge of online gaming implementation.
The former CEO and Chairman of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority in Malta has now stated that the state is looking at the interstate agreement between New Jersey and Delaware and is pretty sure that the state will eventually come into the agreement as well.
Nevada and Delaware want to work with New Jersey, as both governors of the states have come forward to speak on the subject with officials of the state. While the state has yet to join any such agreement, New Jersey has always been interested in creating interstate compacts and understands that a group effort would be much more effective than as a stand-alone state. The state already has the technology in place to share data between states so it is only a matter of time before the agreement becomes a reality.
Back in late February, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Delaware Governor Jack Markell signed the first ever interstate agreement titled the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement. This agreement would allow the two states to share player pools and is open for additional states to join. It will be interesting to see when New Jersey jumps on board as well or if they will even be agreeable to the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement as Nevada and Delaware are.
