For the month of October, the state of New Jersey saw a nice upswing in profits, an increase of 6.9% based on the revenues month-over-month from September. The overall online gaming options, casino and poker gaming, was up considerably, with poker earning an 8% increase from September. The online poker traffic was up due to the 2015 WSOP Main Event and the Garden State Super Series.
Figures of the online gaming were released by the Division of Gaming Enforcement just last week, showing the 6.9% increase in revenues. For the month of October, online gaming was able to bring in $12.8 million for October, which is a nice increase from the $12.2 million earned in September.
The gain can be attributed to online poker as the activity saw the 8% increase from September to October. When breaking down earnings based on operator, the Golden Nugget saw the largest jump, up just over 12% from September. Next in line was Caesars with a 9.29% increase followed by the Tropicana with an 8.74% increase. The only casino to see a dip in revenues was Resorts, who went down just over 4%.
When you compare the numbers of October 2015 with October 2014, the increase is even bigger. Online gaming is actually up 35.6% when compared to the previous year for the same month. In 2014, the state was only able to earn $9.48 million with $12.8 million earned this year. Take the figures from January to October 2014, and the state earned $103.4 million. This year, for the same time frame, the state earned $121.61 million.
For the month of October, online poker was up but when comparing the year-over-year, the activity is actually down 15%. The boost for October can be attributed to the buildup of the WSOP November Nine as well as the Garden State Super Series which is a successful poker series offered in the state of New Jersey.
