It was just a few months ago that online poker operator Betfair was forced to find a new partner in the state of New Jersey when the Trump Plaza shut down. Online poker and casino gaming operators must have a land based partner to be able to offer online gaming, and Betfair found themselves without a partner. Betfair eventually found a new partner in the Golden Nugget just a few weeks ago, but has now decided to cease operations in New Jersey as of December 1st when it comes to online poker gaming.
According to a report by John Mehaffey at USPoker.com, Betfair closed their online poker site in New Jersey yesterday and a representative of the company confirmed the closure with the news source just this morning. The cease in operations will not affect the casino site of Betfair in New Jersey or the online poker offerings available outside of the United States.
The report also states that Betfair removed the poker index page of the New Jersey site. When you launch the poker platform of the NJ Betfair site, no tables will be displayed. Players are able to load the online casino without any issue and still take part in online casino gaming.
Betfair offered nice promotions for players in the state with a VIP program and a large first deposit bonus. Players didn’t seem to take advantage of the promotions and Betfair Poker posted a rake of $0 for the month of October and in September, the poker games earned only $1. According to reports by the Division of Gaming Enforcement, Betfair Poker was only able to earn $50 in poker rake from January to October of this year.
With the closure of Betfair, the state of New Jersey has lost two poker sites this year. Back in October, Ultimate Poker NJ shut down and closed their casino site as well.
