In poker, we have both professionals and casual players who aren’t in it to make a living. The latter group usually is just trying to have a good time and earn some extra cash. However, there’s a small group of these people who are crazy about poker, despite having to be concentrated on something entirely else.
Neymar Jr. is the most famous soccer player in Brazil. In fact, he is currently among the top 10 soccer players in the world, as his skills as an athlete are undeniable. What’s more, many soccer fans have no idea that Neymar enjoys playing poker a lot, and he even decided to participate in the 2020 SCOOP.
He managed to make a deep run in one of the events and earn a fairly respectable amount. It would seem to prove that Neymar is involved for his love for the game and not the money as he took home $6,719, which, of course, pales in comparison to what he makes as a soccer player. Neymar has been active as a poker player and managed to achieve relatively impressive success in 2020 SCOOP against some fierce competition.
SCOOP 118-H: $2,100 NLHE [6-Max, Turbo, Progressive KO]
Neymar Jr. took part in a progressive knockout tournament, meaning that players were earning bounties for every player they knock out. The event required the buy-in of $2,100, and it attracted 225 entries, one being the soccer legend himself.
The players created the prize pool of $450,000, and it was the Russian Konstantin “krakukra” Maslak who managed to snatch the lion’s share, winning $72,947 for his effort. His regular prize was $37,900, but he has done a pretty good job in bounty-hunting, and he managed to earn almost as much in bounties alone — $35,047.
His final opponent was “Dajvey” from Slovakia, who earned $6,906 in bounties and $37,900 in the regular prize, which was the same amount Maslak won. The Slovakian, therefore, earned a total of $44,806.
Neymar Jr. failed to make it to the final table, but he still ended up in 12th place. His regular prize was $4,219. Moreover, he was also pretty good at bounty hunting and managed to win $2,500 in bounties.
Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior began his senior career in Santos back in 2009, where he spent four years playing soccer. His talent was noticed by one of the most successful clubs in the history of this sport – Barcelona. Neymar signed for Barca in 2013, where he played until 2017.
After that, he signed a contract with the French club Paris Saint-Germain (the popular PSG) where he plays nowadays. Like all other soccer players, Neymar now has a bit of free time, as many soccer competitions around the world have been canceled due to the coronavirus. He now has more time to focus on his other passion – poker, but he hasn’t forgotten to stay in shape either.
