However, more states are watching those in the industry closely to see if they would like to get on board as well. Many groups such as the Poker Players Alliance are also watching closely to make sure that players are able to benefit. One group in particular, the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, is now planning on making proposals in 2014 to help with the continuation of this industry.
According to a recent report by CaliforniaOnlinePoker.com, the group is closely watching as the online gaming market develops in the United States. The group is worried that the market is focusing on state levels instead of on a federal level. However, the group has realized that federal legislation is not going to happen any time soon. The NCLGS wants to protect players so they will be focusing on regulation proposals in 2014.
The group plans on spending a great amount of time studying the online gaming industry and then use their findings to create a ‘roadmap’ that can be used by states to offer online gaming. The NCLGS does not plan on releasing any proposals until they have researched the industry thoroughly. Industry leaders will be consulted, with interstate compacts discussed as well as safeguards for potential issues such as gambling addiction or underage game play.
The group is planning on offering such proposals so state leaders and lawmakers have a guide in which to use to pass legislation. However the NCLGS has stated they are going to respect the rights of the state and not pressure any individual state to offer online gaming if they do not choose to. The group feels as though if the opportunity were available with some type of uniform structure, the social risks would be minimized on a state to state basis, since federal legislation is not in place.
