Caesars Entertainment has announced that the official charity organization for the 2012 World Series of Poker is the One Drop Foundation. One Drop and the WSOP will be working together to raise awareness of the need for clean water all over the globe. The two will work to raise money as well as educate players at the WSOP on the issue.
The main resource of raising funds will be the Big One For One Drop which is the $1 million buy-in bracelet event at the WSOP. Players who compete in the event will see a portion of their buy-in going toward the charity. The WSOP will be giving $2 million in seats which will give the charity $111,111 in donation money for each buy-in.
During the tournaments, the Rio will be offering water stations where players can refill reusable water bottles. The One Drop Foundation will also be offering players in each event to make a 1 percent donation of their winnings to the charity. Players will be able to claim a tax deduction on any donation they provide.
Mitch Garber the CEO of Caesars Entertainment commented on the partnership by stating: “One Drop is doing important and impactful work and we intend to do what we can to help their efforts. The water crisis is a worldwide issue and with the WSOP’s global reach, we believe this is a great fit for our company.”
Guy Lailberte the founder of the One Drop Foundation believes that working with the WSOP and the poker community is a great opportunity for the cause. Laliberte spoke with Card Player on the subject and he stated:
“The poker community is worldwide and has always been incredibly charitable. Sometimes the players get a bad rap and are seen as selfish, but for the most part, it’s the complete opposite that is true. I think this is a great opportunity for poker players to show the world what they are capable of.”
