Since launching online poker in the state of Delaware, operators have not seen great success. Poker revenues have struggled and according to the recent figures release by the Delaware Lottery, the state has seen the lowest revenues since launching last year. For the month of June, the three gaming sites of Delaware were only able to earn $25,607 in online poker fees and rake. This is a major difference from the revenues from the previous months.
In May, the gaming sites were able to bring in $57,468, so the drop is well over half of last month’s take. Of course, the summer months mean that players will be heading outdoors, taking part in vacations and sports, and playing less poker. But this is still a major downswing from just a one month time frame which is a hard hit to the state.
Despite the less than stellar online poker earnings in Delaware, the state did see an increase in online gambling numbers. In May, the state pulled in $175,410 with online gaming as a whole and in June, this number was up to $187,944. This is a good increase and the online gaming numbers of the state have continued to improve since launching in November. There was a slight decrease in May, but the numbers remain pretty solid overall.
Along with the solid online gambling numbers online, players continue to sign up for new accounts every month. In May, 342 people signed up for a new player account in Delaware and then in June, an additional 399 players opened a new account. Player signups are of course lower than from the official launch, but the fact that players are still signing up can be seen as a good sign.
On the horizon for the state of Delaware is the launch of interstate online poker. Working with Nevada, Delaware is part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming agreement which will allow for the two states, and anyone else who decides to join, to share player pools.
