Phil Hellmuth has finally done it. After five years of sitting on eleven World Series of Poker bracelets, the poker pro has finally added a new bracelet to his collection. The record breaking 12th WSOP bracelet was earned by Hellmuth after he won Event #18, the $2,500 Seven Card Razz tournament.
308 other players registered for the event and Hellmuth outlasted them all, earning the first place prize of $182,793 and his 12th WSOP bracelet. Hellmuth could not believe he finally earned another bracelet. Commenting on the win, Hellmuth stated: “It’s unbelievable. I’ve been waiting for this since ’07. I’ve been knocking, knocking, knocking on the door. I’ll have to break out some new hats that say 12 on the side.”
It was no easy feat winning the tournament. Hellmuth faced a tough field of competitors and when the final day of the event arrived, 18 players returned to try and claim the WSOP gold glory. Sitting at the final table of the event would be six previous winners with dozens of titles under their belts so it would be no easy task to win the event.
Hellmuth would outlast Michael Chow, Barry Greenstein, Brendan Taylor, Scott Fischman and Brandon Cantu to then face Don Zewin in heads up play. Heads up play would last two hours and then it would end rather quickly.
Zewin would go all in and the cards would be revealed after fourth street. Hellmuth earned a 10 on seventh street to give him A-2-4-10-J and Zewin would only pair his nine and simply stated to Hellmuth: ‘You Win.’
