Piotr Nurzynski the Winner of EPT Barcelona

Barcelona was the place where the European Poker Tour made its baby steps. The first victory ever was taken by Alexander Stevic and the whole thing was held in Casino Barcelona.

This casino is the busiest casino in the world during this event, and 15 years later, the organizers can proudly say that 2018 PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona €5,300 Main Event has ended. There were a total of 1,931 entries which is the new record set for this tournament.

The event ended with a qualifier from Poland called Piot Nurzyunski topping the field and managing to win as much as €1,037,109. He was actually inactive in poker for two years as he was traveling and just playing satellite tournaments such as €250 PokerStars while he was residing in South America. Piotr does not have any big victories and this was his first win that is really big.

In fact, he only earned about $11,812 from poker tournaments until this point that changed his life completely and turned it upside down. Apart from the main cash prize, Nurzynski also won $30,000 Platinum Pass richer. The most important thing – his name will always be remembered in the history of Europan Poker Tour.

Naturally, he was really shocked and could not believe what was happening to him. He stated that it struck him and that he had run extremely well. In fact, Piotr stated that he had made two big mistakes during the last day and he was certain that he was unable to win the tournament. He added that it was an amazing feeling and that it was difficult to put it into words at that moment.

The prize pool that was created for this tournament was the amazing number of €9,365,350. Apart from the trophy and the money, the two $30,000 Platinum Passes were awarded and the players could use them to access the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC).

Piotr Nurzynski actually had some pretty great competition. One of the players was John Juanda who already won this tournament back in 2015 and came close to winning it again. However, he lost all chips and was 9th. Another person who also had a great success and is 2015 Deauville champion is Ognyan Dimov. He managed to go further and even returned on the final day for the final table. However, his run ended on him being on the 3rd place.

The heads-up game was played between Nurzynski and Haoxiang Wang. Wang had more chips at the beginning of the heads-up but Piotr managed to turn the things over in a couple of hands. The winner stated that the pressure was lower once he entered the heads-up play and that he played much better from that point which eventually led him to the victory. It seems that this poker player is going to appear more in the big tournaments in the future.
