Nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame Class of 2012 are now open and the World Series of Poker is ready to see who will be taking the top spots. Fans can now nominate their favorite players for a spot in the Hall of Fame if they meet the specified requirements.
In the past, the Poker Hall of Fame will elect one or two players to be inducted each year. The new members are inducted in November to coincide with the World Series of Poker Main Event Final Table. However, this year, the final table will take place in October because of the United States Presidential Election.
The Poker Hall of Fame has strict criteria that they use to elect players for induction:
A nominated player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
Be at least 40 years old at the time they are nominated (Chip Reese Rule)
Played high stakes
Played consistently well, having gained respect from peers
Stood the test of time
Nonpayer’s who are nominated must have contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.
When the nominations are complete, media members who make up the committee will review each nomination and then choose which candidates are to be eligible for induction. Those who do make the cut will join the likes of Doyle Brunson, Benny Binion, David “Chip” Reese, Johnny Moss, Puggy Pearson, Thomas Austin “Amarillo Slim” Preston, Phil Hellmuth, Stu Ungar, Barry Greenstein and Linda Johnson.
Players and fans who would like to nominate a player need to head over to the official World Series of Poker website. When nominating a player, you are asked to complete a registration form which asks for basic information such as your name, address and birthday. You are also asked who you wish to nominate and why you would like to see that player inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
