Two hundred and ninety eight players competed in the 2009 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour stop in Manchester at the G casino. One of those players was Simon Moorman, the father of poker pro Chris “Moorman1†Moorman, who just so happened to win the tournament.
Chris bought his dad a seat in the tournament as a gift for his birthday and what a gift it was! Simon was able to outlast the field and take the win and it was only his second ever live tournament. Simon works by day as a credit manager of a toy company but on this day he was the top performer in the poker tournament.
When it got down to heads up play, Simon was up against Harri Isomaki of Finland. On the final hand both were all in with Isomaki holding K-8 and Simon holding A-5. An Ace on the flop gave Simon the win and his son could not be more proud.
After his dad’s win, Chris Moorman was quoted as saying the only way he could top his dad would be to win the main event of the World Series of Poker. It’s nice to hear about a son doing something nice for his dad and the result is even better than it could be imagined.
