As we reported earlier, Shahram “Sean†Sheikan, was facing deportation from 1995 charges that according to officials involved misdemeanor sexual battery charges. At the time Sean was in his early twenty’s and the girl seventeen.
Thursday, Harry Gastley, a U.S. Immigrations Court Judge ruled that the Department of Homeland Security did not provide enough proof to decide if Shahram (Sean) Sheikhan committed a deportable offense. This decision halted all deportation proceedings against the Nevada poker pro.
Sheikhan has appeared on the NBC poker show, High Stakes Poker and has two runners up finishes and a third in the WSOP tournaments in Las Vegas and has earned over $2.1 million in poker winnings in his career. He is probably most recognizable for his clashes with Mike “the Mouth†Matusow in the 2007 WSOP.
Sean is not completely safe from deportation as of yet, the Department of Homeland Security has until Dec, 17th to appeal Gastley’s decision. One of the determinations factors was that the Court Judge could not tell what Sheikhan was convicted of or whether it was a trail by jury, plea or a judges ruling.
His original arrest was on Contra Costa County and officials told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that misdemeanor files are not keep after 10 years.
Sean Sheikhan, now 38, is a legal U.S. citizen, married and has one child. He was arrested on Aug. 30th, jailed for over a week and eventually released on $10,000 bond.
