When it comes to online poker play, there are players who play for fun and players who have made the game their career. For those who play the game as a lifestyle, many will try and take advantage of recreational players. Top online poker room, PokerStars, has decided to create a new policy that will stop players from waiting on recreational players before they begin game play.
Pokerfuse brought the story to our attention after reading a recent post at the popular TwoPlusTwo poker forums. Steve Day, a representative of PokerStars, released the details of the policy on the poker forum.
Many times, players will choose to sit out until certain types of players join the table. With the new policy, the table will close if players have sat out and the dealing has ceased. The number of players at the table is not a determining factor.
This means players that site out and are waiting for the weaker members to sit at their table will not have this option any more. The site will be removing tables with a lull in dealing from the lobby so players will not have this option.
When starting a new game, one table of every type will be open if one player is seated at the table. The site has now set a time for dealing to start and if it does not start in the time frame the table will be removed from the lobby.
The new policy will force the players to compete against each other instead of waiting out for certain types of players. This new option will help to protect recreational players as well as stop a strategy that was quite common amongst regular players. The policy is currently enacted for mid to high level FL/NLHE as well as Pot Limit Omaha tables. This does not include Heads Up tables.
