Since PokerStars has not entered the United States online gaming market, yet, the online poker room is not eligible for United States players to enjoy. However, the site would still see players in the US try to log on and create an online gaming account. With their previous issues in the states, PokerStars wanted to make it clear that US players are not accepted as of yet, and have recently strengthened a punishment policy to help prevent players from logging on to PokerStars from the US.
According to PokerFuse, PokerStars will now be presenting tougher punishments to try and dissuade players from trying to use the poker room for online poker game play. The report states that Michael Josem, a representative of the site, has explained the policy of PokerStars so players can better understand. Josem stated that PokerStars increased the severity of the punishment because it was no longer credible for players to claim they did not know that game play was not available in the US.
Josem commented that the previous policy stated that PokerStars would confiscate net winnings unless the player was deemed malicious and then the whole balance would be taken. The new policy will now see the entire account balance taken unless the player is able to prove they were being non-malicious and had no prior knowledge of the new restrictions. If the player is found to have had no knowledge of the restrictions, PokerStars will only be taking the net winnings. According to Josem, the new policy is not related to the acquisition by Amaya.
Players who do not want to lose their account balances should wait to visit PokerStars until the online poker site is licensed in the US. It has been rumored that PokerStars and Full Tilt will be coming to New Jersey in October so anyone in the state will be able to take part in online gaming once the sites are launched.
