The Poker Players Alliance held a press conference at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino this past Monday and during the press conference the PPA announced the dates for this year’s National Poker Week as well as other new initiatives.
The dates for this year’s National Poker Week will be July 19th through the 25th. The PPA also revealed a few new websites that were designed to increase poker player’s participation in the process of politics. The PPA also announced their plans for the 2009 ‘fly in’ to Washington D.C. where PPA representatives and poker pros are going to lobby on the behalf of the game.
John Pappas the PPA Executive Director opened the press conference and short speeches were made by PPA Chairman Alfonse D’Amato and U.S. Representative Shelley Berkley. Linda Johnson and Greg Raymer, both PPA Board Members, made appearances as well.
One of the websites mentioned at the press conference was www.Nationalpokerweek.com. This site shows players how to contact local officials about the game of poker as well as information on the July ‘fly in’. The site also shows players how they can sign a petition that is telling the President, Barack Obama, that Poker is NOT a crime. The petition will be sent to the President on July 22nd during National Poker Week. Players can also sign the petition by going directly to www.PokerPetition.com.
The PPA also mentioned www.MyPokerStory.com which is a website where players can submit videos detailing why they love the game of poker. Players who submit a video to the site will be eligible to win a trip for two to Las Vegas.
