Lester Edoc won the Super High Roller event that is a part of PokerStars Red Dragon Manila recently. He won a total of 5,222,000 in Philippine pesos ($102,127) in an exciting finish where he had Florencio Campomanes in heads-up play that lasted for approximately three hours.
The event required the buy-in of 500,000, attracting a total of 25 players on Day 1. However, five players decided to re-enter the tournament at a later stage. The top five players were paid from a lucrative prize pool of 14,113,500, and Edoc managed to grab the biggest chunk of it.
Having won this amazing event with an uncertain finish, Edoc stated that he had “one of the best final tables ever.” The amount of money he won with this victory is the second largest in his career. On the other hand, this is the single most significant victory for this player from Manila.
Edoc is not a new poker player. In fact, he has been in the business for more than a decade, making him a real professional. This victory was definitely worth the wait, and the winner was eager to share his excitement.
One of the reasons why he was so thrilled with this victory was that he was short-stacked for the majority of his time at the final table.
He wasn’t lying when he said that the heads-up portion was exciting for him. He entered the last part of the event short-stacked but eventually managed to become the chip leader.
However, Compomanes wasn’t going to give up that easily and decided to strike back, leaving Edoc only eight big blinds. At that moment, Edoc was determined to return once again, which he did in a magnificent run that ended with him sitting on the throne.
Edoc Makes History In Okada Manila
Edoc is very familiar with the dazzling interior of Okada Manila, where the tournament took place. He occasionally plays poker there, and his biggest cash ever happened at that place when he ended up a runner-up in the 2019 APPT Manila, failing to win against Chaofei Wang.
According to his Hendon Mob profile, Edoc has officially passed the $1,000,000 mark with this cash. Although he was playing very well, Edoc admitted to being lucky in this Super High Roller event.
Final Table — Who Else Made It to the Payment List?
The top five players who sat at the final table all made it to the payment list. The fifth-placed Yake Wu from China earned a total of 1,341,500. He was followed by Lei Yu, also from China, who ended up fourth and earned 1,658,000.
The last player who hit the rail before Campomanes and Edoc were able to face each other was Nang Quang Nguyen from Vietnam, who won 2,293,000.
Finally, Compomanes had to settle for second place and the prize of 3,599,000, which is approximately $70,396.
