Over the coming days, Resorts Casino will be launching an online casino for real money game play within the state of New Jersey. Resorts has been approved by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and after a transactional waiver was signed by the DGE, the casino was allowed to move forward with their iGaming plans.
Earlier this month, Resorts launched a free play site and at that time, announced that real money game play would begin sometime early this year. Players were encouraged to go ahead and preregister and learn more about contests and promotions with free game play.
It was last Wednesday that Resorts announced they would now be launching a real-money site which would take place after a trial period of testing for a one week time frame. Several aspects must be tested and approved by the DGE before the site becomes official. With the online casino gaming, Resorts plans on offering a large selection of slots and table games that will include exclusive titles with content that will not be available anywhere else.
With the announcement of the online casino’s impending launch, many in the industry began to wonder would happen with PokerStars. In late 2013, Resorts partnered with PokerStars for online poker. After PokerStars was purchased by Amaya Gaming, Resorts decided to partner with NYX Gaming, this was in 2014. According to Bluff.com, Sportech and Resorts were partnered for online casino gaming only and Resorts will continue to work with PokerStars when it comes to poker gaming. Once PokerStars gains licensing approval by the DGE, Resorts will be able to offer an online poker site powered by the iPoker gaming giant.
For now, Resorts must wait for PokerStars, who continues to be under review by the DGE. It has been a long review process for the online poker room and according to Eric Hollreiser, the Head of Corporate Communications of Amaya Gaming Group, stated that Amaya is working closely with the Division of Gaming Enforcement during the process of approval. Hollreiser reiterated that Amaya is still partnered with Resorts and looks forward to launching online poker once approval is given.
It is unknown as to when PokerStars will receive approval to operate for real money in the state. As of just a few days ago, New Jersey Chris Christie is being accused of delaying the approval for the poker site with Christie denying these claims.
