The inaugural U.S. Poker Open has finished up, offering a total of eight events on the schedule as well as the opportunity for the top money earner to be crowned the series champion. Several players did quite well during the many tournament events, but one managed to stand out above the rest. Stephen Chidwick of the United Kingdom dominated the field in almost every event, eventually earning the USOP Champion title.
Within the eight events, Chidwick was able to cash out in five. He won two back to back events and had a runner-up finish within those five cashouts. The poker player earned more than $1.25 million during the series, which pushed his live career earnings over the $11 million mark. With his success in the series, Chidwick was crowed champion, taking home a shiny trophy for his efforts.
The Aria Hotel & Casino played host to the U.S. Poker Open, with a variety of events on the schedule. Chidwick was able to earn back to back wins by competing in Event #3 and #4. Event #3 was the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament, with 44 players competing for $374,000 in cash prizes. Chidwick won the event after defeating Keith Tilston in heads-up play. Chidwick then won Event #4, the $25,000 Mixed Game Championship. In this event, Chidwick outlasted a field to take down Christopher Vitch in the final round to earn the first-place finish of $247,500.
Chidwick did so well during the U.S. Poker Open, that he was named champion before the series was over. He had the lead within the Championship standings before Event #8 was completed and based on his numbers, there was no way that he could be defeated. In the end, Chidwick would claim the title of Champion with $1,256,600 in tournament earnings during the series, which second place went to Keith Tilston, who earned $1,047,100.
