PokerStars Baltic Festival Main Event finished up this past weekend and it was UK’s own Thomas Partridge who came up with the win. Partridge had to face James Keys, also from the UK, in heads up play before he could claim the top prize.
Ironically Partridge and Keys are friends and traveled together to compete in the €1,100 event which took place in Tallinn, Estonia. 307 players total came to the Swissôtel in Tallinn to compete in the Main Event. The event was the biggest poker tournament ever held in the Baltic States as so many players showed up and the prize pool was more than 4.5 million Estonian Crowns, which comes to approximately €290,000.
Several PokerStars pros competed in the event and a couple managed to cash out. Those competing were: Katja Thater, Johnny Lodden, J.C. Alvarado, and William Thorsen were the pros competing. Mats Sundin and Sami Sello were two of Team PokerStars SportsStars who competed as well. Peter Eastgate cashed out in the tournament as well as Andrius Tapinas, a PokerStars sponsored player.
Once the two friends made it to heads up play Keys’ was in the lead with 2 to 1 in chips. But Partridge was able to take down a few pots to earn the lead. In the end both men went all in once they had a decent hand. Partridge managed to get a flush and Keys had two pair. The river didn’t help Keys and Partridge was able to earn the win.
Partridge commented on entering the tournament and going up against his friend. He stated: “I haven’t played many live tournaments, apart from in Las Vegas, and that didn’t go very well. But our friend qualified and encouraged us to come along as well. The heads-up at the end went pretty quickly. I had a good run of cards and got the momentum going. I’m very pleased with the way it went. Now I’m going to try to improve my game before going to the Bahamas. I don’t want to look too happy because my friend lost.”
