Event #56 of the 2012 World Series of Poker is the latest tournament to finish up and it was Tomas Junek who earned the first place win. A field of 2,797 registered to compete in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em tournament and Junek outlasted the field to take on David Borg in heads up play before claiming the gold bracelet.
With the win, Junek earned his first WSOP gold bracelet as well as a nice first place cash out of just over $661,000! By day 3 only 22 players remained and this group would slowly be whittled down until the final two remained: Junek and Borg.
Heads up play would begin quickly and both Junek and Borg would quickly begin battling for one of the largest pots of the night. Junek would earn the win and Borg would win the next hand to double up with a flush.
However, Junek would not be outdone and once he held a nice chip lead the tournament would soon be over. The final hand would see Borg start off by raising 250,000. Junek would ponder whether to wager and would soon three bet 700,000. Borg would then be the one thinking and he would go all in, which Junek would call.
Junek held pocket 10s while Borg held K-5 suited spades. The flop showed 2-5-4 and Borg would need one more five to pull ahead of Junek. The Ace on the turn would bring a straight draw which would produce a chop but a 6 on the river would not help Borg and he would be eliminated in second place, giving Junek the win.
