The WSOP 2016 Poker Hall of Fame recently announced the nomination process has finished up and ten players have now been announced as nominees for this year’s Hall of Fame. As many as two pros will be inducted this year in Las Vegas at Binion’s Gambling Hall on the 26th of October. Current members of the Poker Hall of Fame as well as a panel of members from the media will now decide who will be joining the Hall of Fame for 2016.
The following players have been nominated and are up for consideration:
- Chris Bjorin
- Humberto Brenese
- Eli Elezra
- Todd Brunson
- David Ulliott
- Matt Savage
- Carlos Mortensen
- Chris Moneymaker
- Max Pescatori
- Bruno Fitoussi
The voting panel will have until the 7th of October to make their choice and turn the ballot in to the WSOP Governing Council. Last year, the award when to John Juanda and Jennifer Harmon with a few of this year’s nominee’s also nominated last year. Moneymaker, Elezra and Brunson were all up for consideration for the 2015 class.
For players to be considered for nomination they must meet certain criteria. Players have to have played the game against acknowledged top competition as well as be at least 40 years of age when nominated. Nominated individuals have to have competed in high stakes and played well consistently, gaining the respect of their peers. Players also must have stood the test of time throughout their career. Non players who are nominated must have contributed to the overall growth and success of the game with lasting results as well as positive ones.
The Poker Hall of Fame was established in 1979 and currently has 50 members. Harrah’s Entertainment acquired the Hall of Fame in 2004 when taking over the World Series of Poker brand. It will be interesting to see who is able to earn this year’s induction honors after the voting is complete.
