Tournament Directors Association Make Much-Needed Change to Upcoming Summit

Since late last month, poker players have been in an uproar over the upcoming Tournament Directors Association Summit scheduled for the summer. On the 26th of March, Matt Savage, the World Poker Tour Executive Tournament Director, announced the venue for the upcoming conference. This announcement should not have been a big deal but it was. The 2015 TDA Summit was scheduled for the 16th and 17th of June at a venue that was less than desired by poker players. The Venetian Las Vegas was chosen for the summit, owned by Las Vegas Sands Corporation, is connected to Sheldon Adelson and no proponent of online poker wants to be involved with the property or have ties the billionaire.

Once the announcement was made, players hit the forums and social media, showing their disgust in the decision to use the Venetian as the place to host the summit. The TDA Summit would see tournament directors coming from around the world and the firestorm behind the announcement threatened to cause problems for the event.

While poker players, both pros and amateurs, as well as others showed opposition to the decision, Savage tried to show how the venue offered all aspects needed for the conference including space, equipment, hotel rooms, etc. Alexandre Dreyfus, the Global Poker Index leader, stated he would pay for the TDA to host their conference at any other location besides the Venetian. The Aria was suggested as an alternate location and has now been announced as the new venue.

Late Friday night, Savage posted on his Facebook page that the upcoming TDA Summit for 2015 would take place on the 26th and 27th of June at the Aria Las Vegas. Registration details were released the very next day for the new venue.

It is only reasonable to see why poker players would be outraged at the TDA for hosting their summit event at the Venetian. The event would not only give exposure to the venue operated by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation it would also line the pockets of the company which uses their money to try and push bills that will make online poker game play illegal. For now, the TDA’s cash will go to the Aria, a much better venue in the mind of poker players, one not owned and operated by the online poker opponent Sheldon Adelson.
