In recent weeks, rumors have been heating up that Amaya Gaming was going acquire PokerStars in a deal that would assuredly guarantee PokerStars a seat at the legalized USA gaming market table again. Those rumors were put to rest in late May, with Amaya denying that they were involved in any acquisition talks with PokerStars.
Well, it seems the “talks” have been put back into motion as Twitter and other press release wires have been blowing up with news that Amaya has raised arranged financing to acquire the world’s largest online poker site.

The above tweet is in reference to a Bloomberg article published earlier today about the temporary suspension of trading of Amaya Gaming shares. The stock has surged over 28% in the last few days since talks of a merger with PokerStars have heated up. The suspension of Amaya trading only feeds the fire even more that a reverse takeover seems to be moving forward that would make Amaya and PokerStars one of the biggest online gaming giants worldwide.
It will also undoubtedly pave the way for PokerStars to finally have a permanent residence in the legalized US poker space again. Recent “bad actor” clauses in legalized markets such as New Jersey and Nevada have prevented PokerStars from having any type of presence thus far in the United States.
Now, with California now making big strides to get online poker legalized, it seemed like it was now or never for PokerStars to make something big happen to ensure they would have a role in offering its poker software to Americans once again.
If a public announcement comes today we’ll make sure to provide more details as the story unfolds, but it looks like it may not happen until tomorrow or later in the week.
UPDATE: OnlinePokerReport has closely followed the story and it looks as if a deal is indeed in place and will be announced with the next day or so!
