The term Triple Crown in the game of poker means that a player has won a World Poker Tour main event, a bracelet in the World Series of Poker and a European Poker Tour or PokerStars Championship Main Event. The latest to do so is Mohsin Charania after the player took down his first World Series of Poker bracelet event this week.
The thirty-two year old poker pro was competing in the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event during the 2017 WSOP when he outlasted the 237 player field to win the first place prize. Charania won $364,438 which puts him at over $5.6 million in total live tournament earnings during his career.
Charania began his journey to the Triple Crown when he won the 2012 WPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. He then won the WPT Grand Prix De Paris in France in 2013 and the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in 2014. He had yet to earn the WSOP bracelet to round out the Triple Crown but finally able to do so this week with the WSOP $1,500 No Limit Hold’em first place finish.
In the end, it was Charania and Cary Katz competing in heads-up play. On the final hand, Katz would raise all-in with K-Q off-suit while Charania called with A-Q off-suit. The flop showed 9-9-2 which put Charania out front. A 10 of spades on the turn gave Katz the option for a flush draw but the 2 of hearts on the river would give Charania the win and Katz would have to settle for second place.
