This past Saturday night, twenty people were arrested at The Ramada Plaza Hotel in Kentwood, Michigan for participating in an illegal poker tournament. The Michigan State Police had been running an undercover operation, looking to bust these poker playing law breakers, and get rid of the illegal poker tournaments this past weekend they made their move.
An undercover inspector attended the illegal poker tournaments at the hotel as part of the investigation (no word on his win/loss record). The investigator attended the tournaments in November and December 2009 ‘to keep tabs on the group’.
The group of players were arrested and charged with frequenting or attending gaming places which is a misdemeanor charge and punishable by up to 90 days in jail. The players are expected to be arraigned next week for the charges.
The suspected operator of the tournaments currently has warrants out for his arrest. Cash, poker chips, gaming cards and other gambling items were taken during the raid by the Michigan State Police and the Kentwood Police Department. The Hotel has been cited for violations according to the state Liquor Control Commission.
