Ultimate Poker, the first legal US online poker site in the industry, is expanding outside of Nevada after our media partner USPoker.com (formerly Legal Poker Sites) announced earlier today that Ultimate Poker has signed a deal with Trump Taj Mahal in New Jersey. The Garden State already has legalized online gambling in place, which should make this transition very smooth for its residents.
The Chairman of Ultimate Poker, Tom Breitling, had the following comments regarding the deal:
“Today we are excited to be entering into an agreement with Trump Taj Mahal Associates to bring online gaming to New Jersey. This represents a huge step forward in our desire to offer Americans across the nation the opportunity to enjoy safe and regulated online games.”
New Jersey expects the site to offer real money options for players in the coming months. As in Nevada, Ultimate will only be available to New Jersey residents; although it’s important to note that interstate poker pacts could be made provided certain laws are amended in states that already offer internet gaming options, such as Nevada and Delaware.
Ultimate Poker has been a huge hit in Nevada since going live a few weeks ago. The site is still the only legalized online poker room in the state thus far, with WSOP.com expecting to launch their real money options in the very near future.
This marks another small step towards legalized online poker at a federal level, or at the very least maybe interstate poker. That is all contingent on state legislatures to get together and amend their own online gambling statutes of course. Only time will tell when this could happen, but at least online poker seems to be heading in a positive direction here in the United States.
