The Internet gaming community will have to wait even longer for a resolution to the compensation negotiations because today, the US Trade Representative’s Office announced yet another delay. The deadline has changed to December 14, 2007, instead of Monday, when settlements were supposed to have been reached between the US and other members of the WTO.
Gretchen Hamel the U.S. Trade Representative spokesman said, “Each negotiation is proceeding at its own pace, and some are quite advanced. However, we have agreed to extend the negotiation period for all claimants.”
“In order to provide all parties with sufficient time to reach a successful resolution, the United States and the claimants have jointly agreed that these negotiations should be extended until December 14,” Hamel continued.
A reasonable solution is expected to be met by all nations involved by the deadline on December 14.
Claims have been brought against the US that they are breaking the WTO Trade violations with their new anti-online gaming laws, then to further cause damage, the US decided to change the GATS, which is definitely something frowned upon. Because of this action, it has given all WTO members the ability to demand rightful compensation from the US. The US has been beaten in other stages of negotiations at the WTO and it is expected that the requested compensation will be reached.
