It was announced just yesterday that poker pro Viktor “Isildur1” Blom has cut his ties with online poker room PokerStars. Blom will now move on from the online poker room and will remove himself as a member of Team PokerStars Pro.
PokerNews spoke with Eric Hollreiser, the Head of Corporate Communications at PokerStars that the company and Blom mutually agreed to not pursue renewing Blom’s sponsorship agreement which had expired. Hollreiser stated:
“In his short time as a poker player, Viktor has played against the biggest names in poker at the highest stakes in the toughest games. It’s hard to recall a player who has kept the poker world so riveted at such an early stage of his career. We’ll be watching with great interest and we wish him nothing but success.”
Blom commented on parting ways with the online poker room by stating: “I’ve enjoyed my time as a Team Pro and I wish everyone at PokerStars the best. Now I just want to concentrate on playing poker.”
Blom first joined the online poker room in 2011 after he became known for playing high stakes games at Full Tilt Poker. Blom was a force to be reckoned with as he took on top pros like Patrik Antonius, Brian Hastings and Gus Hansen, not to forget Tom Dwan.
Blom also had a shining career at PokerStars. The pro was able to win eleven of fourteen matches in the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown which earned him over $1 million. Blom also earned the title at the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller event, earning another $1 million plus.
It will be interesting to see where Blom goes from here. Will the pro sign with another online poker room or will he go the solo route? No matter what the pro decides, there is no doubt he will continue to do well in online poker as well as live events.
