In what was already one of the most historic tournament poker series’ already, this year’s Spring Championship of Online Poker (aka “SCOOP”) at PokerStars also culminated in their largest prize pool ever in 2013. With over 580 runners plunking down their $10k buy-in, it was no surprise that only the best of the best showed up to take their shot at the $1,000,000+ first-place prize.
Action was pretty fast from start to finish at the final table, with several notable past SCOOP champions making some serious runs at the top prize. It had taken 2 days to decide the final 9, although it was definitely one of the toughest online final 9 in recent history.
From what I followed on the rail was nothing short of amazing, especially some of the more notable players – which included the likes of online poker legend Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and one of the most known “old school” PokerStars cash game specialists in Noah “Exclusive” Boeken.
Within a few hours, past SCOOP finalists and winners were being knocked out by the aforementioned 2 players in Blom and Boeken. In fact, Mike “munchenHB” Telker would finish in the exact spot he finished in last year’s SCOOP Main Event, locking up 4th place and over $400k for his efforts. Noah Boeken would then eliminate ‘cmontopdeck’ in 3rd after his KK held up against JT.
So in the end, it would be one of my two personal favorites battling it out for one of the more prestigious online tournament titles anywhere. Boeken would head into heads-up play with a 3 to 1 chip lead over the “swingy Swede” as one PokerStars Blogger called him earlier in the week. That title would end up suiting Blom just fine as fate would have it…
Blom would manage to chip up rather quickly to start the match, finally grabbing back the chip lead before their next scheduled break and putting Boeken in troubled waters in the process. On the final hand, Boeken and Blom would get all their chips in on a Kc Js 9s flop.
When the cards were flipped ‘Isildur1’ (Blom) had flopped Broadway as he held Qc Tc, with Boeken hold only Ks 5c for top pair. The turn and river would eventually brick out for Boeken, and before you knew it, the Swede found himself a million dollars richer and taking home yet another SCOOP title.
Congrats Viktor!
