As many Americans celebrated the 4th of July with fireworks and BBQ, Will Jaffe was taking down Event #54 of the 2012 World Series of Poker. The poker player outlasted the field of 3,220 players to win the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament.
The tournament would last four days and the final day would see Jaffe and Luis Campelo returning for heads up play. Jaffe would compete for almost thirty three hours total before earning the coveted gold bracelet. When day 3 ended, Jaffe would hold a slight lead, but Campelo would be right on his heels.
The two would play two levels of heads up play on day 3 before the day would be called and the two would return on day 4. Both players had large crowds in their corner and both were cheering and pulling for their favorite player. However, Jaffe’s group was on point by day 4 and they would yell and cheer each time the pro won a hand.
Eventually, Campelo would go all in with the lower stack and the hand would not go his way. The final hand would go down as follows: Campelo moved all in on the button and Jaffe would call from the big blind. Jaffe showed A-2 and Campelo held K-3. The flop showed Q-2-2 and Jaffe was in the lead. An Ace on the turn helped Jaffe even more and the 8 on the river was no help to Campelo and Jaffe was the winner of Event #54! The win gave Jaffe the first WSOP bracelet of his career and his third cash out ever in the WSOP.
