Women in Poker Hall of Fame to Induct Victoria Coren-Mitchell and Debbie Burkhead

First established in 2008, the Women in Poker Hall of Fame was created to recognize female poker player’s achievements and how they contribute to raising awareness of the game. To be considered for the Women in Poker Hall of Fame, nominees have to be involved in the industry for at least fifteen years, in the capacity of the player or organizer of the game. Nominees must also support the existence of poker games for ladies, even in not participating.

There are currently 17 members in the WiPHOF including Kathy Liebert, Jennifer Harmon, JJ Liu, Linda Johnson and Barbara Enright. For this year, Victoria Coren-Mitchell and Debbie Burkhead will be inducted. Coren-Mitchell will be the first player from Europe to be added to the Hall of Fame.

Both Burkhead and Coren-Mitchell have excelled at the poker tables. Burkhead is a regular at the Las Vegas poker tables and has been competing for more than twenty years. She also is a writer of poker content, known for her Debbie Does Poker column at Poker Player Newspaper, where Burkhead was published for more than 10 years. Burkhead is also on the Women in Poker Hall of Fame Board of Directors.

For Coren-Mitchell, she is the only player to have ever won two main events on the European Poker Tour and was also a member of the PokerStars Team Pro for many years. Also a published writer, Coren-Mitchell has written columns for several outlets as well as published a book titled: “For Richer, For Poorer: A Love Affair with Poker”.

The two were selected based on their credentials for the induction but the inductees could be quite different if a voting software issue had not been detected. Earlier in May, members of the public were invited to vote for seven women to be inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame. One vote was allowed per IP address. Just last week, it was found that a software flaw allowed voters to delete cookies and vote again.

To avoid any corruption in the voting process, the Board decided to make the choice of inductees based solely on credentials. Burkhead and Coren-Mitchell will now be inducted on the 6^th of July in Las Vegas at the Gold Coast Casino.
