The World Series of Poker won’t take place until later this year, but the Circuit part of this event has already started in 2024. There have been a number of big events taking place to begin the year, and some notable winners have already emerged.
The most recent World Series of Poker Circuit took place at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in California, and the event ran from January 11th-24th. Only $2.6 million in prize money was handed out at Thunder Valley Casino, but there were 15 rings handed out to the competitors.
While all of the events are important to the competitors, all eyes were on the $1,700 buy-in Main Event, and it was Denis Lee that took home that top prize. This was the second ring for Lee in just over a few months, and this win at the main event earned him $207,020 in prize money.
There were some other notable names at the World Series of Poker Circuit, including Kaylen Lebaron in the main event. Lebaron proved to be a tough competitor when facing Lee in heads-up action, but ended up finishing in second place and $127,120.
Lee Looking Strong
Lee is a resident of Fremont, and he is one that has been riding a wave of momentum to rack up the wins over the last few months. Not only has he been able to win two rings already on the WSOP Circuit, but there were two other events in which he finished at the final table.
Even though it has been a great run for Lee of late, he is still at less than $350,000 in career earnings. His biggest win up to this point came all the way back in 2018, but the win last week was more than two times larger than that win.
Lee will now try to continue this run at other Circuit events before eventually taking his game to the official World Series of Poker. Winning these smaller events is a good start, but Lee will have to face a number of better players as the action intensifies.
Other Notable Winners
While Denis Lee was the big winner at this event, there were other poker players that cashed in over the course of the two weeks. Maxwell Young has always been a terrific player on this circuit and he was able to pick up his eight all-time ring by coming away with another victory.
There are now just eight players with at least eight WSOPC rings, but a few other players look to be closing in on that number as well. Scott Buller of Nebraska had another good showing as well, and he was able to collect his fourth ring during this event.
Mark Egbert wasn’t going to mess around with the biggest events during the WSOP Circuit, instead choosing to dominate some of the smaller events. That strategy worked out for Egbert as he was able to pick up two rings in the process.
