The event that led to the final table had a total of 546 players, and only six of them managed to make it to the last part of the competition. One of the players that stood out was Darren Elias, as he was the center of focus during the even. Elias had a very particular quest which included winning the event and going after the fifth WPT title. However, he was not lucky and skillful enough as he had stumbled upon some very good players that proved to be stiff competition. In the end, Elias ended up in third place, leaving Matas Cimbolas and David ‘ODB’ Baker to fight for the title in the heads-up play.
The heads-up play was also very intensive as Matas Cimbolas already had one WPT title and felt like he had been there before, while David Baker did not have any experience playing WPT heads-up tables. On the other hand, Baker is a World Series of Poker bracelet winner, so he is not completely new to the game.
After winning the event, Baker received $1,015,000, while Cimbolas won $646,930. Elias managed to snatch a total of $473,280, while Jean-Claude Moussa, who was in fourth place, won a total of $346,550. The fifth place was occupied by John Smith, who won $267,400, while Steve Yea from South Korea ended up sixth and won a total of $201,650.
Baker Tops All-Time Money List in Arizona
The total number of poker earnings before this tournament was $4,407,488, and his biggest cash was $514,926 in the 2015 World Series of Poker Event #44: $50,000 Player Championships where he finished on the third place. Furthermore, Baker managed to win a nice sum of money by ending on the 17th position in the 2010 WSOP Main Event where he won $396,967. He won his first bracelet in 2012 WSOP Event #37: $2,500 8-Game when he managed to win a total of $271,312.
However, all of that is now less important than his current victory where he managed to snatch a seven-figure score for the first time in his life. By doing this, he surpassed Jacob Balsinger in Arizona All-Time Money List. At this moment, ODB has a total of $5,409,689 while Balsinger has $5,042,442.
Baker is a great poker player who has a very long and successful history behind him. However, his poker skills seem to have improved even more, and it seems that he has set a firm cornerstone for his future endeavors. In other words, if he keeps playing as he played in this event, he will win a lot of events to come.
