Panayote ‘Pete’ Vilandos has earned his third WSOP bracelet after winning Event #50 of the 2012 World Series of Poker. the event had a buy-in of $5,000 and was a No Limit Hold’em tournament. Pete first earned a WSOP bracelet back in 1995 and then in 2009. Pete was able to outlast the 1,000 field in Event #50 to earn his third ever WSOP bracelet.
The 72 year old poker player had to take on twenty five year old Kyle Julius in heads up play to earn the first place win. The event was set to take three days to complete but it would take an extra, unscheduled day before the tournament would conclude. Heads up play would start on Day 4 after third place was set.
By day 4, only three players remained: Julius, Pete and Dan Smith. Smith was the chip leader but he would be the first to go. Smith would go all in with A-K and was called by Pete who held A-10. With a board of 8-6-3-10-6, Smith would be out in third, missing his chance at the title win.
This would give Pete the chip lead of 8.8 million to Julius’ 5.3 million when heads up play began. Pete quickly began putting pressure on Julius and would soon gain a stronger lead and taking down the tournament. The final hand would see Julius move all in from the big blind. Pete would call and show A-J while Julius held A-5. The board fell K-Q-4-3-10 and Pete would have his third WSOP bracelet.
