WSOP First-Timers: How Does It Feel to Take Part?

Most of the time, people who win gold bracelets and big cash rewards are players who have a lot of experience playing poker in the World Series of Poker events. It takes years of practice in order to compete in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. However, some people are first-timers, and some of them only wanted to cross it off the bucket list. In other words, people want to take part in WSOP only to see how it feels, despite the fact that they are not professional poker players.

One such person is Ben Myers, who managed to qualify by being second in the Florida Poker League. The league lasted for 22 weeks at SKC Poker Room, and Myers did his best to win a seat at the main table as the first two players were granted seats as part of the prize. Myers stated that the league was different as it requires getting best results overall without actually having to win a single tournament. The further players made it, the more points they would get, and the top three players of the week would also get payouts.

Myers is playing poker with small stakes as he is not a professional, but rather an enthusiast. However, he has been actively playing poker lately and working part-time as an Uber driver. He added that he felt ready for the tournament and that he was at the point where he had applied everything he had learned in poker. Myers used to be a part of the corporate world, but he found out that he likes playing cards and driving for Uber much more.

He stated that he was blessed to have quit the corporate world about 15 years ago. He added that he managed to earn up to three times more while he was working in his old job, with six-figure salaries, but that he was much happier with poker and Uber. In fact, poker was his first passion, but then he started pursuing his corporate career and quit poker. Nevertheless, he decided to return to his passion, and he is a part of the Main Event of the 50th Annual World Series of Poker.

After quitting his job, Myers moved to Florida and started his driving career, which allowed him to focus on poker more. He has been actively playing the game, especially in the last couple of months when he found out that he has a seat reserved for the WSOP Main Event. He stated that he had been very lucky to receive training from one of the best in the industry — Michael Laake. He added that he also read a lot of books, watched a lot of videos, vlogs, and more.

In the end, Myers stated that his hero was Daniel Negreanu due to his ability to extract info from people just by reading them. He added that Negreanu was also a great ambassador for the game of poker and that he (Myers) was trying to emulate him in all of Negreanu’s attributes.
