The World Series of Poker is no stranger to firsts, offering top quality gaming options each and every year during the annual poker series. From offering innovative tournament events to providing massive prize pools, the WSOP commonly provides poker players with the best options for tournament poker play.
Last year was the first time that the series featured the option to play online. Players could log on to the WSOP site while in Nevada to play online poker, taking part in cash gaming or tournament options. This year, visitors to the WSOP could bring mobile devices and play online while at the gaming tables. The mobile applications were new this year and players have taken advantage of this opportunity.
Today, the WSOP will kick off the first ever online poker tournament of the series. This will be the very first time the WSOP has hosted a bracelet event online and it is expected that a large number of players will participate. The event has a buy-in of $1,000, with players having the option to deposit with cash at the Rio Casino cages. Cash deposits can also be made at additional properties including Caesars, Paris, Planet Hollywood and Harrah’s.
The final table of the online event will take place in live form at the Rio. The remaining players who have earned a spot at the final table will meet to go head to head in person to see who will earn the bracelet of the first online WSOP bracelet event.
A unique point that has come to light with the online event is the WSOP user names and player identity. A username allows a player to remain anonymous but once seen in a live setting, the anonymity could go away. Because of this, the WSOP is allowing players to change their username once the event is complete, if they so choose.
