With the final table of the World Series of Poker right around the corner, it also signifies the induction ceremony of the Poker Hall of Fame inductees. It was not too long ago that the WSOP opened nominations to the public and now have announced the list of finalists who will be considered for induction.
Ten individuals were chosen by a public vote which ended in August. The following are those who were chosen to be considered:
- Carlos Mortensen
- David Chiu
- John Juanda
- Matt Savage
- Max Pescatori
- Bruno Fitoussi
- David Ulliott
- Jennifer Harman
- Terry Rogers
- Chris Bjorin
Every person nominated is a player besides Savage and Rogers. Savage is the World Poker Tour Executive TD while Rogers is the founder of the Irish Open. Two of the finalists are no longer living, as Rogers passed in 1999 and Ulliott passed this year from cancer. Ulliott’s family and friends have been pushing to see him inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame, winning one battle with his name being added for consideration.
The names on the list will now be sent to the Poker Hall of Fame members who are still living, which is 23 total. A media panel consisting of 16 individuals will also vote on the list. Once chosen, the class of 2015 will be inducted during the festivities of the WSOP Main Event Final Table in Las Vegas, Nevada. A special dinner and induction ceremony will be held in the Gambling Hall of Binion’s.
Personally, I would like to see Jennifer Harman finally be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. Harman has been nominated many years running, narrowly missing out on being added as a member. It will still be some time before we find out the results of the voting and who will be chosen as the 2015 members of the Poker Hall of Fame.
