The Rams and Seahawks have both been very competitive through the first four weeks. And now, in Week 5, on Thursday Night Football, they will meet for the first of their two-yearly meetings. This game will not say too much about either club, though it is far more important for Seattle, who would drop to 2-3 if they fall short and take the loss.
L.A. is 3-1 so far and enters off a loss to the Cardinals, who now sit at 4-0. Matthew Stafford has come in and instantly started slinging the ball all over the field in a way Jared Goff never did. Not to knock Goff, who had a good Rams career, but Stafford is just that much better and the early success all the way around stems from his performances.
At 2-2, the Seahawks have been a bit up and down this year. The big thing is that they came away with a win last week to get back on track. A 1-3 start would have instantly had Pete Carroll on the hot seat, despite a long, successful partnership to this point. Look for another big week from Russell Wilson, who is trying to lift his team onwards and upwards.
This is going to be quite the showdown.
Betting Odds & Lines
The spread for the game is favoring visiting L.A., -2.5. The over/under is set at 54.5 points. The SEA moneyline is +117, and the L.A. moneyline is -140.
Rams Seeking Divisional Road Win
Two weeks ago, the Rams played against Tom Brady and the Bucs. They won the game handily and improved to 3-0, marking the first time since Week 12 of last year that they had lost a game. It was great for morale, and they showed the rest of the league just how dangerous they could be.
But of course, they went and got crushed by Arizona a week ago. The NFC is loaded with powerhouse-level teams, and each one is going to be a grind. They are a few years removed from their last Super Bowl appearance but have the talent to get back, no question.
Look for Aaron Donald to wreak havoc on Seattle’s O-line and for the offense to have its moments.
Seattle Seeking Key Win
For the Rams, this game means a great deal. But it means a whole lot more to the Seahawks, who would very much not enjoy having a losing record through five weeks. On the bright side, old friend Alex Collins is back and running the ball very well. On the downside, Chris Carson has a neck issue and may have to sit.
Collins found the end zone last week and did one of his classic Irish jigs. He has been a nice story, as has the receiving duo that continues to dominate. D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have been incredible all year and were a big part of the mid-game turnaround against the Niners last week.
A lot of good football is in store.
Seahawks Win
The Rams will fall short as Seattle gets the W to keep things rolling.
