Two of the teams in the west were expected to have a chance to throw some punches this year, but they both came up short in Week 1 of the regular season.
We’ll get a chance to see the Arizona Cardinals on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday for Week 2, and they will be looking to avoid an 0-2 start to the year.
As far as their initial matchups went, the Raiders were serviceable but had some costly mistakes throughout the game and lost the turnover battle.
On the other hand, the Cardinals were dead for much of the game, and allowed Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to score at will.
As we look ahead to the spread, the oddsmakers have the Raiders favored at home at -5.5.
The Cardinals need an injection of life
Let’s not do the overreactions to Week 1 like we usually do, but the Cardinals looked completely out of sorts.
They were completely outcoached and outplayed on both sides of the ball. Kyler Murray struggled to find the open man.
Granted, the Cardinals were missing two of their top receivers, but it is still no excuse to put on the display that he brought with weeks to prepare for the opening game.
A bounce-back should be in store, but the Cardinals might be in a situation that they will not be able to get themselves out of early on in the season.
New look Raiders just need to clean a few things up
The new and improved Las Vegas Raiders added one of the most important free agents in the offseason in Davante Adams, and he was every bit as dominant as we saw him in Green Bay.
The biggest problem of Week 1 for the Raiders was their turnovers, and if they were able to clean that up they might have been set up for a victory.
Derek Carr is more than capable of being the best player on the field in any given week, especially now with someone as dynamic as Adams at his disposal.
If they manage to get one or two other skill players to step up, their team will be scary and be able to make some noise in the AFC.
Cardinals @ Raiders Betting Prediction
With both of these teams taking a loss in the first week of the regular season, they will be looking to bounce back hard and be motivated for this week’s matchup.
Adams has a tasty matchup here against the Cardinals secondary who were leaving players open all over the field. He will be a nightmare for them to cover.
We will see if some of the injured Cardinals are able to return to bring the reinforcements they need, but they will still be without DeAndre Hopkins for the next couple of weeks.
All that said, they are the more desperate team in this situation, but the Raiders are the better team especially hosting this matchup.
Take Las Vegas at -5.5 in this game, and watch and enjoy the magic of Carr and Adams.
