In the lone game in NCAA Football on Sunday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Texas Longhorns. This is a great game between two of the best programs in all of college football. This game will be played on the campus of Texas, at Darrell K. Royal- Texas Memorial Stadium. The Fighting Irish have won the last five meetings between these two teams. At 5Dimes, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are -3.5 over Texas.
The Texas Longhorns, led by head coach Charlie Strong are looking to improve upon a disappointing season last year. The Longhorns won just five games a season ago. Texas will host UTEP next week, before going on the road to California and Oklahoma State in back to back games.
For the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Brian Kelly and his team won 10 games a season ago. The rotten taste in their mouth came from back to back losses to end the season on the road at Stanford, and then in the Fiesta Bowl to Ohio State. The Irish will host Nevada next week, before welcoming Michigan State to South Bend.
Longhorns Seek Upset
The Texas Longhorns could use a huge statement win. Texas would love to make that statement in their opening game of the season. The Charlie Strong era has not good as brilliantly as folks in Austin would have planned. Texas missed a bowl game a season ago, and if Strong does that again – he may no longer be in Austin.
The Longhorns will turn to Shane Buechele as their quarterback. His top targets will be John Burt, who led the team in yards with 457 last season, and also Armanti Foreman. The Longhorns running back will once again be D’onta Freeman, who rushed for 681 yards last season.
Irish led by Junior Quarterback
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will see Junior Quarterback DeShone Kizer run the show. A season ago, Kizer threw for over 2,800 yards and 21 touchdowns. Kizer also threw 10 interceptions on the season. Notre Dame will look to replace their top running back C.J. Prosise, with Josh Adams.
The Fighting Irish had one of the best defensive units a season ago, and have many players back on the roster. Notre Dame had the incident just a couple weeks ago, which led by head coach Brian Kelly dismissing players from the team.
Longhorns Spring Upset
What a game the Texas Longhorns have in front of them. The folks in Austin need a little excitement, and what better program to bring to their house than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish? This should be a great game, with the crowd going bonkers at the thought of an upset.
Notre Dame was great defensively a season ago, and expect that to happen again this season. The problem for the Fighting Irish will be their inability to score the football. In a low scoring game, Texas is going to win this game. At 5Dimes, bet the Texas Longhorns +3.5 over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
