The mixed bag of action in the early games was no indication of how big of a day it would be for football bettors on Week 10 NFL Sunday action. All three late afternoon games featured the favorite covering the spread and the total going over. Favorites in the two early time slots went 8-2 against the spread. New Orleans and Pittsburgh were the only favorites that failed to cover.
Bettors, flushed with cash after winning big during the afternoon games, pounded Green Bay and the over on Sunday Night Football. Both were winners.
Several popular teasers also came through for players, including Baltimore, Denver, Arizona, Seattle and Green Bay. The most popular parlay on the prime time game also hit. The Bears/Packers game was so lopsided that Jay Kornegay, manager of the Westgate Sports Book in Las Vegas, joked on Twitter that “LV Bookies need this game to go 54 minutes or less”. Football games that do not go 55 minutes are considered “no action”, which means all bets push.
The five most lopsided point spread wagers went 4-1. Denver, Kansas City, Atlanta and Green Bay all covered. Only Pittsburgh failed to cover in the picks most popular among public bettors.
Money lines also went 4-1. All four favorites hit, as Denver, Baltimore, Seattle and Atlanta won outright. Jacksonville was picked as a long shot that failed to hit.
The public split evenly on its six heavily bet totals. It is a good week when the worst segment was basically a wash.
This week does not make up for all of the rough weeks during this NFL season. It at least gave bettors something positive to build on for next week.
