The Brooklyn Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks. They are going at it once again, with a pivotal sixth game being played on Thursday night. Kevin Durant turned his swag all the way up and put on a game 5 performance for the ages. It is truly a miracle that the Nets were able to win that game, as they now control their own destiny. Let’s see what happens next.
KD put up a line of 49-17-10, which has never before been done in the playoffs. People were spewing negative tweets and words about him and his lack of leadership following game 4. Oh boy, has that narrative changed. The man is a bonafide star, and the beast was obviously poked. And doing that and playing the full 48 minutes is nothing short of exceptional.
Meanwhile, Milwaukee has only themselves to blame for the defeat. They imploded on both offense and defense, making far too many mistakes. They turned the ball over three feet from the hoop as they attempted to tie the game in the final moments. Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer had been making good adjustments, but it all came crashing back. And Bobby Portis got 0 minutes.
If the Bucks want to win and extend the campaign, they will have to come out aggressive and remain that way.
ODDS
The game 6 spread is currently set at MIL -5.5. The over/under is 220 points.
Nets Seeking to Move On
The Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers conference finals matchup was expected by many entering the playoffs. But now, the Sixers blew a major lead in back-to-back games. And if they lose in Atlanta on Friday night, that’s it for them. Brooklyn was able to turn things around themselves and is a single victory away from ending it. There is but one stat going against them.
And that would be Milwaukee has not lost on their home court this postseason. With a 4-0 record in front of the home faithful, they will be looking to keep that going. And the Nets are playing the role of villain, trying to keep Giannis from the conference finals for a second consecutive campaign.
The keys to victory are pretty obvious. Watch KD work. James Harden has to stay healthy enough to be on the floor. Defend the paint.
Bucks Try and Force Game 7
If the next game was in Brooklyn, betting the Nets would happen for everybody, spread regardless. But given that it is a Bucks home game, they have a real shot to tie the series and send it to a game 7. The home team is 5-0 here, with having been able to close out all the tight ones.
Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday will have to be better on both ends of the court. Giannis Antetokounmpo should really take a turn guarding Kevin Durant to see what would happen. And Coach Bud needs to make more changes, or this one will not go over well. There is too much talent, even if facing the mighty Nets, to just go down.
His job is certainly on the line here. The Bucks need to execute a better offensive game plan, double-team KD and win the three-point battle.
