A Top 25 Friday night showdown is in the works in Idaho as BYU visits Boise State. It’s a rare case of one team having played five more games than the other, but that’s what college football looks like in 2020.
BYU has done no wrong, coming away with seven victories in as many games this year. They have the No. 7 scoring offense in the country while allowing the ninth-fewest points. Here, you have a team that’s producing well on both sides of the ball. They’re looking at an impressive 8-0 record with a win.
Boise State, meanwhile, is looking to find some continuity. Having won their first two games, they’ve been able to stay relevant in the national polls. They have put up 91 points so far, good for an average of nearly 46 per game. Bryan Harsin’s team looks like they’re built to win in 2020.
A fantastic game awaits all of us when these teams meet on Friday evening.
ODDS:
The spread for the game favors BYU by 2.5 points. The over/under is set at 58.5.
BYU Looks to Stay Hot
The BYU Cougars have been on a tear this season, Zach Wilson is slinging the ball effectively, racking up the yards and the touchdowns left and right.
Wilson has thrown for 2,152 yards and 19 touchdowns, with just a pair of picks. He’s added seven touchdowns on the ground to give him 26 overall. Tyler Allgeier has amassed nearly 600 total yards on the ground while scoring seven times. And Dax Milne has 700 yards and eight receiving scores.
This offense has been fantastic all season, with the defense stepping up well on the other end. BYU allows just 13 points per game and appears to be one of the most well-balanced college football teams.
Boise State Aiming for Third Straight Win
The year has opened with a pair of victories for the Broncos, and it would be three in a row if they get it done. Both Jack Sears and Hank Bachmeier have reps start under center, each firing three touchdowns and no interceptions. Given their depth at the position, it makes things interesting, with no tell of who will get the start under center.
The offense has already totaled 13 touchdowns in the eight quarters this year, handing it to both opponents. Boise State’s defense struggled a bit against Air Force, allowing 30 points. That performance came on the heels of giving up only 13 points against Utah State.
We’ll see which Boise State comes to play in this one. BYU is the favorite for a reason. Having played five more games than these Broncos, they have the edge.
The Pick Is In
Make it eight wins in a row for the Cougars! They just can’t be tamed in 2020. Wilson should have another big game and continue to improve his 2021 NFL draft stock, where he could sneak into the Top 10. Expect a bump in the Top 25 rankings as well.
