We inch closer and closer to Week 2 of the NFL regular season with a heated NFC matchup coming in our direction on Sunday.
The Carolina Panthers will be on the road to take on the New York Giants, two teams that entered this season with sleeper potential as teams that might be able to sneak in one of the final playoff spots.
For the Giants, it was guns blazing in the second half of their game which gave them a late score and a victory over the Titans.
In another nail-biter contest, the Panthers lost on a late, deep field goal from the Browns, who put together an impressive bout of football.
Taking a look at the line, the New York Giants open as the favorites at -2.5 over the Carolina Panthers.
Baker Mayfield’s revenge tour comes to a halt
It was a tumultuous affair in Cleveland, who had been the focus of the off-season and all of the controversy surrounding DeShaun Watson.
The Panthers came in hungry for a Week 1 victory but put on a pretty dismal display of offense.
Baker Mayfield, who made a promise to get his revenge, was unable to execute for much of the game and looked a little flustered with his weapons on offense.
The Panthers even refrained from using too many carries with Christian McCaffrey, which was head-scratching, to say the least.
A bounce back may be in store here going to take on New York in this Week 2 game.
Welcome back to the league SaQuon Barkley
After a season-ending injury two years ago, Barkley was unable to get back to his true form in the previous season.
With over 150 yards from scrimmage, Barkley managed to light the stout Titans’ defense on fire and looked as healthy as he has ever been.
All that to say, the Giants do have hope (and a winning record) for the first time in a long time and have a good chance to continue that hope in taking on the Panthers.
Their offense will need some other players to step up and give them life, but for now, fans of the Giants can rejoice that they have some hope.
Carolina Panthers @ New York Giants Betting Prediction
With the Giants drawing the home favorite, it is clear to see that oddsmakers are not taking any chances in these early matchups.
Games like this are really a wildcard in of itself, mostly because both teams are still not clear on the direction they are heading moving forward in this season.
It is likely they will both finish towards the middle of the pack; however that doesn’t mean there are not some x-factors at play here to make the difference.
With two of the most electric running backs in the league, that matchup will be a wash.
It comes down to Baker Mayfield against Daniel Jones, and rolling with Mayfield as the underdog at +2.5 is the play for this game.
