Despite ugly performances in recent weeks, the Chicago Bears will get another national time slot facing a must-win game against the Packers. Even though the Bears have lost four games in a row, Chicago could pull to within a game of first place in the NFC North if they can win this one.
After being benched during the third game of the season, Mitchell Trubisky will be back under center for the Bears. Trubisky was taken second overall in the 2017 Draft. It seemed that his days as Chicago’s quarterback were over, but the injury to Nick Foles has forced their hand, and now he’s back.
The Packers suffered a disappointing defeat a week ago and are looking for a quick recovery. At 7-3, the playoffs are likely for the Green and Gold, but a higher seed in the conference can await them if they can get back on track quickly. A loss in this one to a struggling Bears team would be a bad look.
Green Bay is a 9.5-point favorite for Sunday night’s game. The over/under is set at 44.5.
Bears Trying to End Their Drought
After a great start to the year, the Bears have faltered. A 5-1 start has quickly evaporated, with four straight losses crashing Chicago back down to earth. Nick Foles is injured, putting Trubisky back in charge of the offense. Trubisky has completed less than 60% of his passes this season, with six touchdowns and three interceptions in fewer than three full games.
The running game for Chicago has been horrid, and the playcalling hasn’t helped matters either. The presence of Khalil Mack hasn’t meant too much to the success of the team. It is hard to pinpoint the biggest reason for the Bears’ struggles, but if they want to turn things around and make the playoffs, a win Sunday is a near-must.
If the defense can make life hard on Rodgers and the team can muck up the game a bit, perhaps they’ll have a shot. A loss could mean the end of the Matt Nagy era in the Windy City.
Packers Look to Improve to 8-3
Green Bay can virtually wrap up the NFC North with a win over Chicago. A loss Sunday for the Packers wouldn’t be devastating to their playoff hopes, but it would put them in a much worse position. They are coming off an overtime loss to the Colts and need to add a statement win to their resume to look like a more legitimate Super Bowl threat.
Aaron Rodgers made a few mistakes last week but should have no issue bouncing back. He may be getting a healthy Allen Lazard and Aaron Jones back this week as well, which would open the field up for Rodgers to work his magic.
Za’darius Smith has eight sacks on the season. He’s poised for a big game against a sub-par Bears offensive line.
The Pick Is In
Another loss here drops Chicago under .500. It’s Victory Sunday for the Packers at home, as Rodgers shines in primetime yet again.
