A pair of five-win teams are set to meet up in Week 9, as the Bears and Titans will battle from Nashville, TN, on Sunday. As good as both have looked at times this year, each comes in riding a surprising two-game losing skid. So for one unlucky team, a three-game losing streak will be a reality.
Nick Foles is as easy to root for as any QB in the NFL. He was on the outs before leading the Eagles to a surprise Super Bowl. And the very next year, he helped them to additional playoff success.
Foles did this as the backup, as hard as it is to believe. And now here he is, hoping to guide Chicago to a critical midseason win.
Tennessee, on the other hand, opened up 5-0 before this recent skid. They had no answer for Joe Burrow last week, marking their second straight defeat to an opponent within the AFC North. They have the Ravens on the schedule for later in the year, another game that will prove to be no cakewalk.
ODDS:
The Titans are favored by 6.5 points in this one, the over/under set at 47.
Bears Looking to Snap Out of It
You know things are odd in Chicago when people are calling for Mitchell Trubisky to be re-inserted as the starting quarterback. But these are just rumblings that cannot be confirmed by Bears brass. Foles hasn’t been bad, but he has clearly not been on the same page as Matt Nagy.
This team doesn’t run a very complicated offense, and it doesn’t take a caveman to figure it out. They didn’t get to 5-1 to open the year by running up the score, but with timely defensive plays. Ones that they will need to come up with on Sunday if they want this losing streak to reach its end.
The attention that Khalil Mack draws is the key to the pass-rush doing its thing. With Taylor Lewan not in the Titans lineup, that’s an area they have to attack.
Titans, Henry Look to End Skid
After back-to-back AFC North defeats, the Titans will look to get back to playing the quality of football we saw from them through those first five games. It helps that they have the best running back in their conference in Derrick Henry. They’ll need to use that to their advantage.
Ryan Tannehill has also been slinging the ball well, specifically to wideout Corey Davis. The former first-round pick has had his ups and downs, but he’s been locked in. He’s been as dangerous as any target over the past few weeks.
Look for some of their younger players to get additional defensive snaps after Vic Beasley was officially let go. He struggled in Tennessee and will be replaced accordingly.
Bears Pull Off a Surprising Win
Betting against the Titans isn’t easy this week, but Nagy and company will figure things out. It’s hard to envision Chicago falling short yet again. Sorry, Titans.
