It’s the Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves opening up a three game series on Monday. Both teams are battling for the top of their division. Both teams are in second place as we start this series.
The Chicago Cubs are 24-17, and in second place in the National League Central. The Cubs trail the Milwaukee Brewers in the division. The Cubs are coming off an extra innings win over the Pirates on Sunday. Chicago is 5-5 in their last 10 games.
For the Atlanta Braves, they are coming off a tough loss on Sunday Night Baseball. The Braves led heading into the 9th and got walked off a by a Mets two run homerun. They are 24-13, and trail the Philadelphia Phillies by two games in the standings.
The Atlanta Braves are favorites in this game. Atlanta is listed at -145 over the Cubs. The total is set at 7.5 runs.
Great Pitching Matchup
The Cubs are sending their ace Shota Imanaga to the mound in this game. He has been brilliant this season. He is 5-0 on the season with a 1.08 earned run average. Imanaga has thrown 41.2 innings this season, and struck out 43 batters. He has walked just five guys all season.
For the Atlanta Braves, they are throwing Reynaldo Lopez. Lopez is 2-1 on the season with a 1.53 earned run average. Lopez has thrown 35.1 innings, and struck out 36 batters, while walking 14. In his last start, he went 5.1 innings, and allowed 6 hits and 2 runs.’
Loaded Bats Both Ways
The Atlanta Braves needed just six hits in the win on Sunday Night Baseball. Jarred Kelenic was the first guy to get Atlanta on the board. He hit a solo home run. Marcell Ozuna drove in the other two runs. Ozuna has had a monster season for Atlanta. He has 12 homeruns, and now leads the league with 40 runs batted in.
Ronald Acuna, the MVP of the league a season ago has gotten off to a fairly slow start. He is hitting just .252, with 3 homeruns and just 10 runs batted in on the season. Matt Olson is also struggling a bit for Atlanta. He is under .200 on the season, and has just four homeruns in 2024.
The Chicago Cubs have had a nice season offensively. The Cubs are in the Top 10 in runs scored. Chicago’s top bats have been Seiya Suzuki, Nico Hoerner, Christopher Morel, Michael Busch and Cody Bellinger. Hoerner is hitting .272, while Suzuki is up over .300, at .313.
Morel leads the team with 9 homeruns, while both Busch and Bellinger have 7. In the win on Sunday, the Cubs used a double from Ian Happ, and homeruns from Patrick Wisdom and Christopher Morel.
Braves Top Cubs
The Chicago Cubs are playing great baseball with Imanaga on the mound. We like both pitchers to pitch well here. Neither pitcher gets a decision in a low scoring game. The game is decided late by the bullpen, and that favors Atlanta.
When we go to bet on this game, we are going to take the Atlanta Braves -145 over the Chicago Cubs. Enjoy the game and best of luck with all your MLB betting!
