The Chicago Cubs will take on the San Diego Padres on Friday night for what’s expected to be one of the more interesting games of the day. Chicago and San Diego will play a four-game series in San Diego as the Cubs come into this one with the worst record in the National League Central at 24-31, and the Padres come in with the second-worst record in the National League West at 26-30.
Despite the disappointing starts for the teams, there is still a chance that they both can compete in their division. The Padres are just 7.5 games behind, and the Cubs are only 4.5 games behind.
The sportsbooks believe that the Padres are going to come away with the win in this one as they come in at -165 on the moneyline and +120 on the run line.
San Diego’s Offense Can Show Up
When looking at what the San Diego Padres have done this season, it’s easy to see why the team has struggled. For an offense that was expected to be arguably the best in all of baseball this year, the Padres have yet to be able to get anything going on the offensive side of the baseball. If they’re not going to hit the way that many were expecting them to coming into the season, this year isn’t going to be the one that they were hoping for.
The offense does look like it could be figuring it out, as they’ve scored at least seven runs in three of their last four games. They’re going to need to continue that against a Chicago Cubs team that doesn’t necessarily have the best staff.
If guys like Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis, Xander Bogaerts, and others can all find ways to stay healthy, the Padres should find themselves in a good position throughout 162.
The question for them is if they’re going to be able to do enough to continue battling back in the National League West. Despite it being just June 2nd, 7.5 games behind the Dodgers and Diamondbacks could be a tough place for them to be at this point. The Dodgers typically find ways to win games, and catching 7.5 games on them isn’t an easy task.
Cubs Are Playing Bad Baseball
The Chicago Cubs had one of the better starts in Major League Baseball and were even at the top of the National League Central standings for a few weeks. Unfortunately, their bats have now gone cold, and the pitching staff hasn’t done much either. In four of their last six games, they’ve given up at least eight runs.
If they’re going to want to be the team that they were hoping to be at the beginning of the season, the pitching staff is going to need to be much better.
Chicago Cubs at San Diego Padres Betting Preview Prediction
It’s tough to bet on the Chicago Cubs at this point in the year, so taking the Padres on the run line or moneyline doesn’t seem to be a bad idea here. The Padres are the better team on paper and should eventually start figuring things out.
